Óravél (2013)

Óravél was commissioned by the Iceland Amateur Orchestra and was first performed by the IAO under the baton of Oliver Kentish in Seljarnarneskirkja on the 12th of may 2013.

A direct translation of the Icelandic title would be fantasy-machine. The title can also be understood as the Icelandic negative prefix "ó-", coupled with Ravel - meaning not-Ravel. That is a reference to the fact that the piece is largely built on quotations from the second movement of  Ravel's string quartet in F major.
