For All the Wrong Reasons (2017)

For all the Wrong Reasons is written for the Copenhagen-based accordion trio íTríó. The piece researches the idea of competition within the musical form. It is composed of a series of ‘races’, where the three musicians are to play the given material as fast as possible. Each race ends with a theatrical knock on the bellows of the instrument, symbolising the finish line of each race. These races are then expanded systematically, both in register and duration, increasing the likelihood of the instruments drifting more and more apart.

The ‘races’ are broken up and tied together with a series of quiet, mechanical and almost choreographed types of material, that contrast the frantic, tempo-free character of the ‘races’.

The performance of the piece will take around six minutes
